Sortegories™ is a web-based practice tool, meaning students will access their experience online using the browser available on their digital devices. No app download is required.
Sortegories supports Chromebooks, iPads, Mac computers, and Windows computers. Mobile phone functionality is not supported.
Browser pop-ups must be enabled for one95.app to access the student flipbook. It is advisable to use Google Chrome, Firefox, and Safari web browsers.

2. Once logged in, students will select the One95 Literacy Platform tile from their rostering platform dashboard.
3. Students will be authenticated into One95™ via single sign-on (SSO) and arrive at the student flipbook, ready for Sortegories practice.
In the example below, the student is assigned Modules 1 and 2 of Level A.
4. Students will access their assigned activities by clicking the module tiles on the flipbook homepage.
5. Students will select an activity tile from the 3x3 grid to launch their practice.

6. Students will listen to the activity instructions and watch an example or skip these components if they are already familiar with the activity from previous attempts.
Note: Examples can be referenced anytime by clicking the example icon in the upper right-hand corner of the activity.
From here, students can begin following along and practicing the related skills.
How Sortegories Motivates Learners
Sortegories offers feeding animals and ribbons as motivators to help students see success.
Feeding Animals
At the beginning of each activity, students choose a virtual animal to feed for every correct answer.
In Levels A and B, students choose between rescue animals: dogs or cats.
In Level C, students choose between endangered animals: turtles, elephants, and narwhals.
Students can feed their selected animal one at a time or all at once. Getting answers right means more animals to feed and more engagement for students.
Correct answers add up as points and contribute to donations to help animals in need.
Ribbons
Students earn ribbons for successful practice.
- 80-89% earns a gold ribbon.
- 90-99% earn a red ribbon.
- 100% earns a blue ribbon.
Students can re-try activities as often as they want until they reach a desired score.
If provided by teachers, students can use the take-home handout to track their activity progress by coloring the ribbons for their highest score and the paw prints to match their number of attempts.
How Sortegories Provides Extra Help
Sortegories offers built-in resources that students can access as needed via the icons in the upper right-hand corner of the activity.
Glossary
Glossaries provide support to learn word meanings. Many words in English – even little words – have multiple meanings.
A glossary is available for select activities and can be referenced anytime via the glossary icon.
This icon allows students to see an image and hear the definitions of the words used in the activity.
Heart Words
“Heart words” are commonly used words with a tricky part. The tricky part is known as the heart sound. Hearts identify the parts that need to be sounded out and memorized.
Heart words are available for select activities in Levels A and B and can be referenced anytime via the heart icon.
This icon allows students to learn the heart sound and hear the full heart word pronunciation.
- Red hearts indicate that students should memorize the heart letters and sound out the rest.
- Yellow hearts indicate that students should memorize letters for sounds that have not been taught yet.
Note: In Level C, hearts are not used with commonly used words.
Timer
Timers are used in select activities in Levels A and B. Activities that feature a timer provide the number of answers correct in time and past time.
Note that accuracy is encouraged before speed. Each activity can be repeated as many times as necessary to increase accuracy and speed.
