Students can access their assigned Sortegories™ modules from the One95™ student flipbook at any time.

Student Login
Sortegories is a web-based practice tool, meaning students will access their experience online using the browser available on their digital devices. No app download is required.
Device Requirements
Sortegories supports Chromebooks, iPads, Mac computers, and Windows computers. Mobile phone functionality is not supported.
Browser pop-ups must be enabled for one95.app to access the student flipbook. It is advisable to use Google Chrome, Firefox, and Safari web browsers.
Logging In
One95 provides single sign-on (SSO) capabilities to streamline the login process, eliminating the previous need to manage student usernames and passwords.
To access Sortegories, students will start by logging in via their district’s rostering platform, meaning they will sign in to Clever, ClassLink, Google Classroom, or a supported rostering platform.
Once logged in, students will select the One95 Literacy Platform tile from their rostering platform dashboard.
Students will be authenticated into One95 via SSO and arrive at the student flipbook, ready for Sortegories practice.
Student Flipbook
The student flipbook houses students’ Sortegories modules.
Modules will be dynamically presented on the flipbook homepage as they are assigned and unassigned.
Flipbook Tiles
Tiles represent the Sortegories content available in the student flipbook.
There are two tile types on the homepage: module tiles and the SORTEGORIES TOOLS tile.
Module Tiles
The student’s assigned modules are represented as tiles.
For example, the A-1 tile represents the Level A, Module 1 activities.
Tiles are sorted alphabetically in ascending order based on the level and module.
Students will select the module tiles to launch their practice activities.
Sortegories Tools Tile
The SORTEGORIES TOOLS tile contains teacher-directed resources for cumulative, isolated practice in “heart words” or vocabulary for Levels A and B and morphology for Level C.
This tile will always appear last after any module tiles. It will be accessible even when students are not actively assigned modules.
Students can select the tools tile to view the available resources across all levels.
These resources are intended for student use at the educator’s discretion or for educator use alongside students.
Selecting a glossary or dictionary tile opens the resource for review.
Glossary
Each level features a master glossary that pulls out the words used in Relate It and Categorize It and organizes them by activity.
The glossary for Levels A and B incorporates high-utility Tier 1 and Tier 2 words from the Relate It and Categorize It activities. Glossary words for Levels A and B are defined with written and narrated text along with a picture to aid comprehension and retention.
A morphology glossary containing high-utility prefixes and suffixes is available for Level C. These words are contextualized in a sentence without pictures.
Students can be directed to the glossaries for blocked practice in vocabulary. For example, students could be asked to review the glossary and identify three unfamiliar words as a filler activity. Educators could also review the vocabulary and pre-teach it ahead of module assignments.
Heart Words
Heart words are high-frequency words that contain an irregularity that does not fit any learned pattern. This irregularity is known as the heart sound because it must be learned by heart. The rest of the word must be decoded.
Levels A and B include heart words. The heart words dictionaries facilitate reviewing and practicing heart words, which are provided alphabetically for ease of access.
Note: In Level C, hearts are not used with high-frequency words.
Keypad Icon
If your district has the 95 Literacy Intervention System™ (LIS) enabled in the One95 platform, there will be a blue keypad icon at the bottom of the flipbook homepage.
Selecting this icon allows students to input the assessor’s six-digit code to connect to digital Phonics Screener for Intervention™ (PSI) or Phonics Lesson Library™ (PLL) assessments.

Student Practice
Sortegories offers three levels of practice: A, B, and C.
Each level is organized the same way, consisting of six modules with nine activities for 54 activities. Modules end with a progress check that brings everything together in phrases, sentences, or short passages to help provide a fluency snapshot.
The nine sequenced activities are organized in a 3x3 grid. Sortegories builds horizontally and vertically across three rows of activities from sound to syntax.
3x3 Grid
After selecting a module tile from the flipbook homepage, the 3x3 activity grid will be displayed.
Module activities are represented as tiles. Each tile within the grid displays the activity name and color.
Activity names slightly differ between levels. In the example above, Level A is shown.
Each row of activities focuses on one of three main areas of literacy skill development.
- The first row represents the Read and Spell activities.
- The second row represents the Word Meaning activities.
- The third row represents the Comprehension activities.
The 3x3 grid layout is based on the student’s highest score for each completed activity attempt. By default, activity tiles are displayed in bold colors, indicating students have not yet completed any attempts.
Ribbons will populate the 3x3 grid if the student progresses through the module with a score of at least 80%.
- 80-89% earns a gold ribbon.
- 90-99% earn gold and red ribbons.
- 100% earns gold, red, and blue ribbons.
Note: Since the activity tile ribbons are based on the highest completed activity attempt, the ribbons will remain if the student replays the activity and receives less than 80%.
Navigating Activities
Students will select the tiles within the 3x3 grid to launch the activities. They can skip the opening animation by clicking anywhere on the screen as it plays.
At the beginning of each activity, students select a virtual animal to feed for every correct answer. Correct answers add up as points toward donations by 95 Percent Group to help animals in need.
In Levels A and B, students choose between rescue animals: dogs or cats.
In Level C, students choose between endangered animals: turtles, elephants, and narwhals.
Throughout the activity (if multiple parts) and/or at the end of the activity, students can feed their selected animal one at a time or all at once. Getting answers right means more animals to feed and more engagement for students.
Once they have selected an animal, students will listen to the activity instructions and watch an example. Students can bypass these components by clicking Skip at the bottom of the screen.
From here, students can begin following along and practicing the related skills. Built-in audio and visual explanations are available to assist them at any time.
Students practice at their own pace, repeating activities as needed. While time on task is important, Sortegories emphasizes quality or quantity. This means that students should focus on the number of activities completed successfully rather than the number of minutes logged.
Feedback
Each activity offers a scaffolded feedback loop for continuous improvement.
Corrective feedback is always provided, scaffolding learners with and without educator support. Students receive immediate and item-specific feedback for both incorrect and correct answers, empowering them to identify their mistakes and build on their successes.
Students are given a second try for every incorrect answer, providing an additional opportunity to earn food for their virtual animal.
Help Features
Sortegories offers point-of-use help specific to each activity in the upper right-hand corner.
Activities may feature one or multiple icons related to the available support.
Examples
The example icon provides the ability to replay the help tutorial.
Glossaries
The glossary icon provides a visual glossary with audio support to streamline learning word meanings. The glossaries clarify the meaning intended for the activity.
Heart Words
The heart icon provides access to review and practice heart words.
Red hearts identify high-frequency words that have permanently irregular letter-sound spellings. Red hearts indicate that students should memorize the heart letters and decode the rest.
Yellow hearts identify high-frequency words that have temporarily irregular letter-sound spellings, making them not yet decodable according to the phonics scope and sequence. Yellow hearts indicate that students should memorize letters that are not yet decodable.
Instructional Support
The question mark icon provides instructional support, helping students with unfamiliar concepts and teachers’ learning of reading science.
Word Study
The speech bubble icon provides activity topic support (e.g., schwas, syllables).
Incomplete Attempts
The following events will be recorded as incomplete activity attempts. In these cases, students must start the activity from scratch.
- Closing or refreshing the browser tab or window
- Exiting the activity at any time before it is fully completed
- Losing internet connection
- Not completing the activity and opening it on another device or browser
- Turning off or restarting the device (including the device battery running out)
The following event will be recorded as an incomplete activity attempt unless the student resumes and completes the activity.
- Not closing the activity but returning after the maximum inactivity time (i.e., one hour)
Completed Attempts
Students receive ribbons at the end of each activity if they scored 80% or above.
- 80-89% earns a gold ribbon.
- 90-99% earn a red ribbon.
- 100% earns a blue ribbon.
Students must click CONTINUE and proceed past the ribbon screen for the activity attempt to count as completed.
If the activity is closed before clicking CONTINUE, the 3x3 grid will not update with ribbons, the score data will not be captured, and the attempt will be recorded as incomplete. Students must start the activity from scratch.
The following results screen allows students to view their item-specific activity performance and print their results. The ribbon earned will be displayed on this page.
Students can either replay or exit the activity.
- If the activity is replayed and completed, the student’s highest score across each attempt will be captured and count as one completed attempt.
- If the activity is closed, students will return to the 3x3 grid where the activity tile may update with ribbons based on their score.
All nine activities will be available for practice and replay at any time until the module is unassigned. Students can re-try activities as often as they want until they reach a desired score.
Completed activity attempts and student performance will be surfaced on the Assign Student Activities page for educator visibility.
- The corresponding square within the 3x3 grid of the student’s row will update colors.
- The corresponding ROW box average within the student’s row will update.
- The corresponding row average within the module summary will update.
- The corresponding card within the module summary will update with the student’s data.
